“Mother & Child”

The Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary is a nature reserve and Hindu temple complex in the village of Padangtegal, Bali, Indonesia.

It’s a popular attraction receiving more than 10,000 visitors a month, and an important spiritual, educational, and conservation center for the village.

While I was fascinated by the (almost) human characteristics of these animals, I was respectful of their potentially unpredictable and aggressive behavior.

And while there were plenty of monkeyshines and shenanigans when interacting with each other and with their human visitors, I was struck by the instinctive parenting instincts of both mothers and fathers. The power of love between this mother and her child I found to be profoundly touching.
