After spending the past two months in Houston with CIBT, my visa acquisition team, my passport is back and ready to travel.

You may be thinking, “So what?”

Think of your passport as The Ticket. That thing that, without it, you ain’t going anywhere. But you send it off somewhere with the hope that it will come back full of stamps and stickers that’ll grant you entre into places you only read about in books.

As the days and weeks pass, you begin wondering…what if your passport slipped under a file folder in someone’s desk drawer, buried among supermarket receipts and gum wrappers? What if it isn’t uncovered until the FBI shows up to search for clues after the owner of that desk goes missing after a drug deal gone bad, only to be found in an alley. Naked. His necktie stuffed in his mouth. And very much deceased.

Yes, as imaginations go, mine is vivid.

Then, as you begin to ponder other grisly scenarios, magically your passport shows up at your doorstep in a Fed Ex pouch, about eight days before you’re scheduled to leave to see the world.

Happy dance? Why not…
